Our Foundation

If the integrity of a foundation is compromised through
faulty materials or insufficient undergirding or poor construction techniques,
the entire building suffers. Cracks develop in walls and ceilings, doors refuse
to shut, floors become uneven, and even major structural collapse can result
from a weak foundation.
“When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the
righteous do?” (Psalm 11:3, NIV). When we build our lives on foundations
subject to erosion, the outcome is a collapse. We need a solid foundation in
life. We need a means by which we can live strongly, securely and immovably in
the face of adversity.
Where do we find such a foundation? In Christ.
“[Jesus] said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
“Simon Peter answered and said, ‘You are the Christ, the Son
of the living God.’
“Jesus answered and said to him, ‘Blessed are you, Simon
Bar-jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who
is in heaven. And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will
build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. And I
will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth
will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in
heaven’ ” (Matthew 16:15-19, NKJV).
Our profession and belief in Jesus becomes our foundation.
It is upon our profession of Jesus being the Christ, the Son of the living God
that we experience a constant source of stability in life. When foundations are
being destroyed, what can the righteous do? The answer is, “We stand firm on
our Rock, Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God.” This is our foundation!
This is how a Christian faces adversity and remains strong and stable. The
integrity of our lives is only as sound as our foundation, and there is no
greater foundation than Jesus Christ.
