Resolution 3 – Composition of Executive Presbytery

WHEREAS, The 2005 General Presbytery in session referred to the Executive Presbytery the defining of the Board of Administration, the Executive Presbytery, and the General Presbytery; and

WHEREAS, The Executive Presbytery in approving the final report of its study committee noted the wisdom of the changes in the composition of the Executive Presbytery by General Council action of 1995 and 1997, adding representation from non-Hispanic foreign language districts and ethnic fellowships and

WHEREAS, This action has been more than justified in the intervening years as the foreign language districts and ethnic fellowships have continued to expand and make immense contributions to the Assemblies of God; and

WHEREAS, The Executive Presbytery, after reviewing the Young Pastors Listening Forum report, approved the recommendation of adding members to the Executive Presbytery through the inclusion of a nonresident executive presbyter who is an ordained pastor under 40 years of age, and a nonresident executive presbyter who is an ordained female credential holder; therefore be it

RESOLVED, That General Council Constitution, Article IX. OFFICERS AND PRESBYTERIES OF THE GENERAL COUNCIL, Section 2. Executive Presbytery, page 87, be amended by changing the number 11 to 13 and the number 17 to 19 to allow for the inclusion of such persons so the amended paragraph will read:

a. Composition and terms of office. The Executive Presbytery shall consist of the general superintendent, the assistant general superintendent, the general secretary, the general treasurer, the executive director of the Assemblies of God World Missions, the executive director of the Assemblies of God U.S. Missions, together with 11 13 other persons to bring the number to 17 19. The terms of office for the executive director of the Assemblies of God World Missions and the executive director of the Assemblies of God U.S. Missions shall continue for 4 years or until their successors qualify. The terms of office for all members of the Executive Presbytery, except as stated in this section and Section 1, shall begin 60 days after date of election andshall continue for 2 years or until their successors qualify.
