Young adult resources
By Ryan Moore
There are currently over 50 million people between the ages of 18 and 35 in America. This is the largest generation in U.S. history – a generation marked by its energy, ideas, creativity and passion.
Young Adult Ministries of the Assemblies of God promotes the need for and development of ministries to young adults on a local, district, regional and national level by networking, resourcing and training existing and potential leaders working with young adults. In addition, the national office provides tools to help churches minister effectively to young adults.
The Young Adult Ministries Web site (www.youngadults.ag.org) is host to multiple resources, including articles, suggested books, links to social networking sites, media material, an interactive blog and an online store. Individuals can also subscribe online to a monthly e-mail newsletter, monthly podcast and a quarterly printed newsletter called The Source.
“The Source has given young adults great insight in issues and topics that impact young adult culture,” says Reza Zadeh, a young adult leader in Fort Collins, Colorado. “The leaders that write for The Source are passionate about reaching people and sharing the love of God through exposing some lies of our world and pointing people towards a deeper walk with Christ.”
Leaders from across the country have also benefited from leadership training and ministry consultation provided by the national office that help enhance ministry to young adults. Church volunteers and employees have launched healthy young adult ministries as a result of attending or hosting a young adult leadership forum. Others have gained the encouragement and necessary applications to persevere through common young adult ministry challenges.
Through the national office’s ongoing efforts to increase awareness of the need for enhanced young adult ministry, senior pastors have seen the need and have captured a vision to implement young adults in their overall church growth strategy.
General George S. Patton once said, “Accept challenges so that you may feel the exhilaration of victory.” Reaching this young, creative, intelligent and passionate community is a challenge; yet very rewarding. The Young Adult Ministries office is available to assist those willing to take the challenge and experience the rewards.
