NPC: “Cry Out” on 9/11

By National Prayer Center staff

On September 11, 2009, believers across the Assemblies of God are urged to partner with other churches to gather at or near their county courthouses to cry out to God for a Christ awakening in the Church and in our nation. Cry Out America is a special prayer initiative under the auspices of the Awakening America Alliance, a broad coalition of some 400 fellowships, denominations and parachurch ministries.

“The moral and spiritual condition of both the Church and the nation demand that we come together in united, extraordinary prayer to seek God’s aid in these challenging times,” states John Maempa, director of the National Prayer Center. “Historically, God has responded with great spiritual awakenings as His people have cried out to Him. A fresh awakening is desperately needed in this day.”

Many county coordinators and participants are needed to establish prayer gatherings in all 3,141 counties across the U.S. By visiting www.awakeningamerica.us individuals and churches can find out if a county coordinator has been designated for their county. If there is a coordinator, participation in every way possible is encouraged. If there is no coordinator, it’s not too late to sign up. Simply apply online and get word out to as many churches (in your county) as possible. A number of helps and resources are available on the Alliance Web site as well as at the National Prayer Center Web site, www.prayer.ag.org.

“Courthouse gatherings provide a visible, public expression of our dependence upon God for His help,” Maempa adds. “It is not a time of celebration, but of deep contrition before God. As His people and as a nation we are desperately in need of His sovereign intervention.”
