Students see that God still answers prayer

During the holiday season, most people treasure the opportunity to spend time with family and friends, huddling around the Christmas tree to sing carols and read Christmastime classics.

A group of 25 Argentine students from the Assemblies of God Bible College in Buenos Aires, however, chose to give all that up last December in order to truly experience that “giving is better than receiving.”

The students planned for two years and raised the equivalent of $15,000 to attend one of Convoy of Hope’s U.S. outreaches as part of their senior trip. In return, they had just one desire: to see snow wherever they went. The students ended up in Harvey, Louisiana, — a place that hardly sees snow.

But when their plane landed, four inches of snow on the ground awaited them. It was the first of many answered prayers.

As the students began to minister, they met a local resident who said she had been living a long time without hope. A few months prior to the outreach, she said she felt compelled to read the Bible every night and that she had asked that the God of the stories would make himself real to her and give her the hope she longed for.

During the outreach she entered the prayer tent and met one of the Argentine students.

“We’re so glad you are here,” a student said. “God has been waiting for you, and He wants to bring hope into your life.”

The resident committed her life to Christ.

Another family, who had moved to the area from Honduras and used to attend church, admitted they had lost their connection with God. In desperation, they prayed that God would show them that He still loved them.

Soon after, the Argentine students arrived at their home with bags of groceries. The family said the students’ simple act confirmed what they had been praying for and renewed their faith.

“I wish we could take the Argentine students with us everywhere in the future,” said Hugh Duncan, a Convoy of Hope representative. “Their love and self-sacrifice are true examples of how God still answers prayer.”
