Women’s Department shares Secrets

The Secrets Leader Kit includes a book, CD-ROM and
DVD for an 8- to 12-week study.

By Lindsey Parsons

April 2009 marked the release of an innovative Bible study/discipleship tool for wives. Secrets: Transforming Your Life and Marriage is the national Women’s Department’s new resource featuring author Kerry Clarensau, insights from relationship expert Gary Smalley (For Better or For Best, The DNA of Relationships) and multimedia components.

Secrets was born out of Clarensau’s desire for women to mentor each other according to Titus 2. The book promotes interaction through questions, activities and journaling. Each of the eight chapters reveals biblical solutions and practical advice for key marital issues women face today. Whether married, single or divorced, women are encouraged to embrace God’s design and reject society’s misconceptions about fulfillment, love, respect, intimacy and priorities.

Clarensau, pastor’s wife and national Women’s Department leadership development coordinator, combines her 25 years of marriage and ministry with Smalley’s perspective as a husband and counselor. Together, they encourage women to take responsibility for their own growth, which opens the way for God to work in their marriage. Smalley tells wives, “As a husband, I know firsthand the impact that you, as a wife, can have on your marriage when you work on yourself. In this book, you’ll discover the essential secrets every wife needs to build a great marriage. From relying on God to be your source, to meeting your husband’s greatest need, to growing more deeply in love — Secrets has them all” (from foreword).

Secrets is effective for individual study and in a group setting. The Secrets Leader Kit provides everything for an 8- to 12-week group study. The Leader CD-ROM supplies posters, invitations, teaching notes and more. The DVD includes eight video sessions featuring insights from Clarensau, interviews with Smalley and powerful testimonies from wives in various situations.

Women of every age and marital status are experiencing transformation through Secrets.

“While learning the steps toward a healthy marriage, I realized how much I need God and His wisdom,” shares Sara, who is single. “The testimonies of other women encouraged my personal growth, so that someday I can have a peaceful and lasting marriage.”

Secrets is written in such a way that even women in my stage of life can receive positive and realistic instruction for making a healthy marriage,” says Karlene, who has been married for 43 years. “I have gleaned information that will help me to influence my daughter as she begins a new chapter in her life.”
