Resolution #1 — Terms of Office of Nonresident Executive Presbyters and Executive Officers
WHEREAS, The Constitution of The General Council of the Assemblies of God does not make provision for a beginning date for the term of office for nonresident executive presbyters; and
WHEREAS, The term of office for executive officers begins 3 months after the date of election; and
WHEREAS, Due to the schedule established for meetings of the Executive Presbytery it would be advantageous for the terms of office for nonresident executive presbyters to begin 60 days from the date of election; and
WHEREAS, Three months allotted for transition of executive officers appears to be excessively long in an era of more accelerated change; and
WHEREAS, It would also seem advisable to make the transition in newly elected officers at the same time as nonresident executive presbyters; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That Constitution Article IX. Officers, Section 1. Executive Officers, a., page 95, which now reads:
a. Officers and terms of office. The officers shall consist of the general superintendent, the assistant general superintendent, the general secretary, and the general treasurer, together with such other officers as may be authorized in the future. Their terms of office shall begin 3 months after the date of election, and shall continue for 4 years or until a successor qualifies.
Be amended to read:
a. Officers and terms of office. The officers shall consist of the general superintendent, the assistant general superintendent, the general secretary, and the general treasurer, together with such other officers as may be authorized in the future. Their terms of office shall begin 60 days after the date of election, and shall continue for 4 years or until a successor qualifies.
And, be it further
RESOLVED, That Constitution Article IX. OFFICERS, Section 2. Executive Presbytery, paragraph a. Composition and terms of office, page 95, which now reads:
Section 2. Executive Presbytery
a.Composition and terms of office. The Executive Presbytery shall consist of the general superintendent, the assistant general superintendent, the general secretary, the general treasurer, the executive director of the Assemblies of God World Missions, the executive director of the Assemblies of God Home Missions, together with 11 other persons to bring the number to 17. The terms of office for the executive director of the Assemblies of God World Missions and the executive director of the Assemblies of God Home Missions shall continue for 4 years or until their successors qualify. The terms of office for all members of the Executive Presbytery, except as stated in this section and Section 1, shall continue for 2 years or until their successors qualify.
