Resolution #5 — Scriptural Interpretation

WHEREAS, The Statement of Fundamental Truths of The General Council of the Assemblies of God affirms that, "The Bible is our all-sufficient rule for faith and practice;" and

WHEREAS, Our Fellowship has historically emphasized the necessity of "rightly dividing the word of truth" in all scriptural interpretations; and

WHEREAS, This Fellowship has established a Commission on Doctrinal Purity "for the purpose of giving careful attention to preventing deviations from the Statement of Fundamental Truths and proliferation of unscriptural teachings;" therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That General Council Bylaw Article IV. Committees, Section 4. Resolutions Committee, page 111, be amended by the addition of a new paragraph c to read as follows:

c.Scriptural Interpretation. All resolutions involving scriptural interpretation shall be forwarded to the Commission on Doctrinal Purity. The commission shall evaluate and draft a brief assessment of the scriptural interpretation embodied in the resolution. Their assessment, stating their agreement or disagreement with the scriptural interpretation, shall accompany the resolution when presented to the General Council for consideration.

And, be it further

RESOLVED, That present paragraphs c, d, and e be redesignated as d, e, and f.
