Resolution #6 — Minimal Membership Guidelines For General Council Affiliated Assemblies
WHEREAS, Article VI, Section 5 of the General Council Bylaws provides for a General Council Assembly to revert to district affiliated status if, after 1 year, it has failed to meet the minimal requirements for General Council status provided in the General Council Constitution, Article XI, Section 1, paragraph a.; and
WHEREAS, Many district bylaws do not provide a waiting period of 1 year; and
WHEREAS, There are many occasions when a 1 year waiting period is of such long duration that effective assistance arrives too late to help the church in maintaining spiritual strength and vitality; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That Bylaw Article VI, Section 5, page 116, which presently reads:
Section 5. Guidelines for Minimal Membership for General Council Affiliated Assemblies. If a General Council affiliated church is unable to meet any of the criteria for affiliation as set forth in the Constitution, Article XI, Section 1, paragraph a, it shall seek the assistance of the district officers for help in maintaining the minimal requirement for General Council affiliation. The district may use any means prescribed by its bylaws to assist the church in returning to a position of strength. If after 1 year the minimal requirements have not been attained, the church shall revert to district affiliated status until the minimal requirements for General Council affiliation have been attained.
Be amended to read:
Section 5. Guidelines for Minimal Membership for General Council Affiliated Assemblies.
