Resolution #15 — Prayer For Our Country
WHEREAS, The Holy Spirit speaks in 1 Timothy 2:1 and 2 with instructions to the church that "... requests, prayers, intercessions and thanksgiving be made for everyone—for ... all those in authority ..."; and
WHEREAS, Our current President, George W. Bush, has personally demonstrated his reliance on prayer as a source of strength, and has publicly requested citizens throughout the land to pray for our nation and for his leadership; and
WHEREAS, The Assemblies of God as a Fellowship clearly affirms our God-given place of being salt and light to our world, through righteous living and fervent intercessions, especially in these perilous times; and
WHEREAS, The General Council assembling for its 50th Council in the nations capital, by design, has incorporated important moments of this Council, from opening rally to concluding prayer gathering, to posture itself in prayer before Almighty God on behalf of His Church and this land; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the 50th General Council affirm its God-given responsibility to pray for our nation and leaders throughout our days of ministry, business and fellowship in our nations capital; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That the concluding prayer rally scheduled for Sunday, August 3, 2003, at the Washington Mall be considered by ministers and delegates present for this Council not as a culmination of our days in Washington, D.C., but as a launch of purposeful prayer by Assemblies of God people throughout the nation, seeking and interceding that God will truly "heal our land;" and, be it finally
RESOLVED, That our general superintendent, Thomas E. Trask, and the members of the Board of Administration, on behalf of the Assemblies of God, be authorized to convey to our President the action of this Council in session, and the full commitment of this Fellowship to respond to his stated desire for prayer on behalf of these beloved United States of America.
