Centennial celebration for Azusa Street Revival
By Dan Van Veen

What began in 1906 on Azusa Street in Los Angeles as the mightiest recorded outpouring of the Holy Spirit since bibli-cal times will be honored and used as a platform to thrust Pentecostals forward in April 2006. An incredible week of celebration and ministry is planned for April 25-29, 2006, in Los Angeles with thousands from around the world expected to attend.
“This is a landmark event,” says Assemblies of God General Superintendent Thomas E. Trask. “What began as a few people desperate to have more of Christ in their lives now impacts the world through 600 million Spirit-filled believers. The Azusa Street Centennial is an event that will be rich with heritage, but also focused on empowering the future.”
The first four days of the Azusa Street Centennial event will host a wide variety of conferences and events in Los Angeles, including:
- Daily morning and afternoon creative ministry tracks related to the ministries of the church.
- Daily morning Bible study on the Holy Spirit.
- Around-the-clock upper room prayer meeting that runs continuously from 7 a.m. Monday until 7 a.m. Saturday.
- Holy Spirit ministry rooms for those seeking the infilling of the Holy Spirit.
- Daily historical site tours of various Pentecostal landmarks.
- A healing crusade held on Thursday and Friday evening.
- International Pastor’s Training Conference, Wednesday through Friday (mornings).
- International Women’s Conference, four nights, for women involved in ministries of the church.
- International Revival series, four-night crusade featuring a different speaker from a different continent each night.
- and many other events – to see a complete listing, see http://www.azusastreet100.net/.
The Azusa Street Centennial celebration culminates on Saturday, April 29, with two powerful services to be held in the Los Angeles Coliseum.
The Centennial Assembly will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday afternoon. Pentecostal believers from around the world will open the event with a procession of representatives carrying their nations’ flags and dressed in national garb.

The service itself will be divided into thirds. The first part of the Assembly will focus on the rich heritage of the Pentecostal Movement. The second will look at the present move of the Spirit, and the third part will look forward to the future of the Movement in anticipation of even a greater outpouring.
Following the Centennial Assembly at 7 p.m., the International Youth Convocation will begin.
Designed for the “future” of the Pentecostal Movement, the International Youth Convocation will challenge those 30-and-under from around the world to find and fulfill God’s purpose for their lives and to commit themselves to the cause of Christ – that all might be saved. The evening will conclude with an immense anointing service where thousands of young people will be anointed and prayed over by hundreds of Pentecostal and charismatic leaders.
“I urge Pentecostal believers around the world to hold this event up in prayer,” Trask says. “This event will not only impact those attending and the city of Los Angeles, but I believe has the potential to literally change the world.”
