Beyond the Soiled Curtain

By David and Beth Grant
(Onward Books, Inc., 2007, pp.220, paperback)

Beyond the Soiled Curtain is an account of the fight against the victimization of millions of girls who have been forced into the sex-slave industry. The true stories are interwoven with information that makes one realize the desperate conditions of these girls. Project Rescue, the name of this far-reaching ministry, has become the model of not only rescuing but restoring these girls. David and Beth Grant are the founders of this organization and the authors of this challenging and instructive reading gleamed from 10 years of ministry throughout India and Southern Asia.

Not only have they developed strategies for reaching out to those forced into prostitution but they have also provided care for these children. The partnership with national leaders, as well as others who have felt compelled to join them, speaks of the many facets of this ministry and the ongoing expansion to many cities and countries.

This book is certainly one of hope. The three-pronged approach to ministry provides strategies for intervention, restoration and prevention. Many of the stories tell of restored and transformed lives and the people God used to be "His compassionate hands and heart."

Challenged by the statistic that one million minors are currently enslaved in the global commercial sex trade, and the recounting of Jesus' compassion for women, one must respond. The book includes clear direction of what a person can do to help partner with Project Rescue. Good resources are listed at the end of the book for continued research and understanding of the grave situation.
